About the School

King-Murphy is a one-of-a-kind elementary school located in the mountains near West Evergreen. Our student population is approximately 140 and so our small class sizes, personal attention and parental involvement create a wonderful environment in which students thrive both academically and socially. King-Murphy ensures that students benefit from a healthy balance of expert curricula, state-of-the-art technology, significant integration of the arts, and robust physical activity.

Scholastic Achievements

We are an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) school utilizing the Primary Years Program (PYP), preparing students for success in a global economy by focusing on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside.

We have been a John Irwin School of Excellence since 2004. The John Irwin awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional academic achievement over time. These schools reflect exceptional performance in Math, English Language Arts, and Science.



We ensure all our students needs are met by also providing a rigorous Gifted & Talented program for grades K-6, and led by a qualified teacher on a weekly basis.



Our curricula is wide-ranging and meets both Colorado standards as well as allowing the flexibility for us to effectively implement the IB PYP programme. These programs include:

  • Everyday Math, a balanced, hands-on program for grades K-6 emphasizing math concepts and skills in the context of everyday life.

  • Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing - Built on the best practices and proven frameworks developed over decades of work in thousands of classrooms across the country and around the world, the Units of Study for Teaching Writing And Reading by Lucy Calkins offers grade-by-grade plans for teaching state-of-the-art reading and writing workshops that help students meet and exceed rigorous global standards.

  • Technology - Every classroom has a SMART Boards, document camera, and access to mobile carts of laptops. Three classrooms have been outfitted with top-of-the-line mobile SMART boards, document cameras, KAPP digital white boards, and one-to-one Chrome books for students.
