Our Mountain Community
King-Murphy Mountain School is beautifully nestled at the base of Mount Blue Sky, one of Colorado’s Fourteeners. We thrive in our natural surroundings, which add adventure to our classrooms. At King-Murphy Mountain School we understand that the world is our classroom. Our strong connection to local and state history, along with the recreational opportunities offered by the Rocky Mountains, have shaped us in many ways. The community’s ties to Colorado’s mountains - through skiing, mountain biking, fishing, and wilderness exploration - are as foundational to our school as they are to our community.
At King-Murphy Mountain School, students develop a strong sense of belonging through a combination of “Crew” time, small class sizes, and a tight-knit community where students grow up together. Students also benefit from the school’s growing strength in utilizing the Expeditionary Learning (EL Education) approach to teaching and learning. Ultimately, our students, families, and staff are driven by a common vision and a connection to a purpose greater than ourselves. All of these factors combine to make King-Murphy Mountain School a truly magical place to grow and learn.
King-Murphy Mountain School Performance on State Testing:
Each year, Colorado schools receive performance ratings to inform them and their communities about how well they are doing. These reports are called the School Performance Framework (SPF). For elementary schools, overall ratings are based on achievement and growth on state assessments. While we know that multiple factors contribute to defining a high-quality school, performance on standardized tests remains an important measure of a school’s performance.
We are excited to update you on our SPF results for the 2024-2025 school year. King-Murphy Mountain School has maintained a Performance level, scoring 90 out of a possible 100 points which means King-Murphy Mountain School has maintained the same level of performance for the past two years. This score also places King-Murphy Mountain School above all other mountain-area schools in our geographic proximity, including those within Clear Creek School District and Jefferson County School District (both neighborhood and charter schools). We want to thank the students, parents, and staff for their dedication and efforts in achieving this improvement. The investment in EL Education, the Modules Literacy curriculum, and the Eureka Math curriculum has played an important role in supporting student achievement.
