School Leadership
Scott Bain is a self-described "education geek" and adventurer, currently serving as Principal of King-Murphy Mountain School. Born and raised in Colorado, his outdoor experiences - from guiding river trips to constructing a straw bale homes - have deeply shaped his learner-centered approach to education. Scott is dedicated to nurturing each student’s unique potential by placing them at the center of their educational journey.
Relationships and emotional safety are at the heart of his work. He believes in fostering student agency by removing barriers and harnessing students’ natural curiosity and passion. Adventure plays a key role in his philosophy, offering authentic opportunities for growth and connection to the natural world. Throughout his career, experiential learning has been a defining thread, as he has led students on multi-day educational trips both domestically and abroad, encouraging them to explore, discover, and test their understanding of the world.
As a leader, Scott is committed to democratic ideals, amplifying community voices, and fostering collaboration. He holds that people support what they help create, and that true success emerges from realizing our collective potential. Recognized for his work in distributive leadership, Scott has shared his expertise through the Phenomenal Teaching and Open Exploration podcasts, PEBC Leadership Learning Labs, numerous articles, and consulting for learner-centered schools across the nation and internationally.
