Students Engage in Community Service

King-Murphy’s 5th and 6th grader engaged in a field experience at Casa de Paz, which helps reunite families separated by immigrant detention. Carlson students also visited and helped out at Casa earlier in the week.

Students packed backpacks with welcome notes they wrote, snacks, and a toiletry kit. These backpacks are given to each guest at Casa. The students also met guests as they arrived. “This experience helped my students realize how helpful they were being, when they met the people they were impacting,” said Cassie Prezner.

The students presented their experience during the school’s Community Crew, which provides them with an authentic audience where they can practice the presentation skills. These experiences challenge students to strive for their personal best, think critically, and develop empathy.

The students decided to plan a bake sale to support the center. They’ll be doing everything from promoting the event to baking the goods. Stay tuned!
